Banking Points โ€” Partial Credit as a Strategy

โญโญโญ advancedโณ 25 min read๐Ÿ“ Lesson 190 of 281

A subtask brute force submitted at minute 30 is worth more than a full solution submitted never.

Bank the easy points first

HSG contests score totals, not elegance. If the full solution is not CLEAR within your time budget, submit the subtask solution now: brute force with the right complexity for small n, or the O(n^2) that passes half the tests. Then return with the full idea. Two partial scores usually beat one abandoned full attempt.

Write the brute force FIRST even when you know the full solution: it becomes your stress-test oracle and your insurance if the clever version misbehaves.
